Cardiff Central railway station, operated by Arriva Trains Wales, serves the city of Cardiff in South Wales and lies on the South Wales Main Line which is a branch of the Great Western Main Line but diverges from it at Royal Wootton Bassett, near Swindon. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station. Facilities at the station include ATM's, a First Class Lounge, pay phones, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. For passengers travelling into Cardiff the station is ideally located close to the Millennium Stadium which is in the city centre.The station has seven platforms and between them offer passenger services to destinations including Ebbw Vale Parkway, Nottingham, Birmingham New Street, Derby, Cheltenham Spa, Swansea, London Paddington, Bristol Parkway, Manchester Piccadilly, Bristol Temple Meads and many other destinations in Wales. This in turn connects with the Stena Line ferry to Rosslare Europort in Ireland. It is the third busiest interchange station outside London, after Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly, with almost 3.8 million passengers changing trains at the station annually.
