About Hull
Hull, officially known as Kingston upon Hull, is a city located in the East Riding of Yorkshire and stands on the River Hull at its junction with the Humber estuary. The city can trace its origins back to the 12th century where the monks of Meaux Abbey needed a port where the wool from their estate could be exported.
Hull's visitor attractions include the Historic Old Town and Museum Quarter, Hull Marina and The Deep. Hull has a large number of parks and green spaces which include East Park, Pearson Park, Pickering Park and West Park. West Park is home to Hull's KC Stadium. Pearson Park contains a lake and a 'Victorian Conservatory' housing birds and reptiles. East Park has a large boating lake and a collection of birds and animals. East Park and Pearson Park are registered Grade II listed sites by English Heritage. The city centre has the large Queen's Gardens parkland at its heart. This was originally built as formal ornamental gardens used to fill in the former Queen's Dock. It is now a more flexible grassed and landscaped area used for concerts and festivals, but retains a large ornamental flower circus and fountain at its western end.
