Manchester Piccadilly Train Station

Manchester Piccadilly railway station, operated by Network Rail, serves the north western city of Manchester. The station operates inter city routes to London, Birmingham, Bristol, South Wales, the south coast of England, Scotland and to destinations throughout the north of England. The station is the busiest in Manchester and plans exist to further enhance the station's facilities and capacity as part of the Northern Hub and High Speed 2 plans. The station has a staffed ticket office and passengers are also able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station.

The main entrance leads to a concourse with ground floor and mezzanine levels. The Fairfield Street entrance leads to the Metrolink station in the undercroft and is linked to the rail platforms by escalators.

Facilities at the airport include ATM's, First Class Lounge, pay phones, public wifi, cafes and shops, toilets and baby changing facilities.

Passenger services calling at the station are provided by Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry, East midlands Trains, First TransPennine Express, Northern Rail and Virgin Trains. Between them they offer passengers destinations that includes Sheffield, Buxton, Manchester Airport, Liverpool Lime Street, Southport, Wigan, Llandudno, Pembroke Dock, Stafford, Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International, Nottingham, Norwich and London Euston.

Lancaster Train Station

Located in Lancashire, Lancaster railway station offers passengers services to destinations including London Euston, Glasgow Central, Edinburgh, Birmingham New Street, Crewe, Manchester Airport, Preston, Barrow-in-Furness, Morecambe, Skipton and Leeds.

Lancaster railway station is operated by Virgin Trains and is located on the West Cost Main Line which connects London to the West Midlands, the North West, North Wales and the Central Belt of Scotland. Passenger services calling at the station are operated by Virgin Trains, First TransPennine Express and Northern Rail.

Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. Parking is available at the station for 147 vehicles and is open 24 hours a day.

The station was first named Lancaster Castle station in order to distinguish it from the original Lancaster Station. The station opened in September 1846 with the first public service operating later the same year. The station was built as the southern terminus of the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway after the initial planned route for the line - following the Lancaster Canal and crossing the River Lune from Ladies Walk to Skerton - was changed in favour of a cheaper route west of the city.
