Market Harborough Train Station

Market Harborough railway station, operated by East Midlands Trains, serves the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough and lies on the Midland Main Line which connects London St. Pancras station to the northern cities of Sheffield via Luton, Bedford, Kettering, Leicester, East Midlands Parkway, Derby/Nottingham and Chesterfield. The station is approximately 15 miles to the south east of Leicester. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station.

Facilities at the station include pay phones, cafe, shops and toilets. Passengers should note that ATM's and baby changing facilities are not available at the station.

Passenger services passing through the station are operated by East Midlands Trains with services towards London St Pancras International, Nottingham, Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford, Luton Airport Parkway, East Midlands Parkway, York and Sheffield.

The railway through Leicestershire is not electrified therefore all services are operated by diesel trains. This is set to change by 2019 when a scheme to electrify the remainder of the Midland Main Line is to be completed, this along with faster line speeds, means the town will be around 60 minutes from London.

It is also the terminus for high speed domestic services to Kent, run by Southeastern.

The recent redeveloped terminus has been described by the travel writer Simon Calder as "the world's most wonderful railway station". On the station's upper level, above the Arcade concourse, stands a bronze statue of the former Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman, gazing in apparent wonder at the Barlow roof and at the south end of the upper level, a 9-metre high bronze statue named The Meeting Place stands beneath the station clock.
