Peterborough railway station, operated by East Coast, serves the Cambridgeshire city of Peterborough and lies on the East Coast Main Line which connects London to Peterborough, Doncaster, Wakefield, Leeds, York, Darlington, Newcastle and Edinburgh. In additional to being located on the East Coast Main Line the station is also on the East-West long distance and local services. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station. Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, refreshments, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. The city centre and the Queensgate shopping centre in a few minutes walk from the station.Passenger services calling at the station are operated by CrossCountry, East Coast, East Midlands Trains, First Capital Connect and Greater Anglia. The station was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1845 and its station building with its long classical facade and porte-cochere is Grade II listed.
