Accrington Stanley Football Club was formed in 1968 and participates in the Football League Two. The club was originally called Accrington and was one of the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888. Following the club's demise a local club called Stanley Villa took the town's name to become Accrington Stanley.

Accrington Stanley Football Club is a 20 minute walk from Accrington railway station. Alternatively a portion of the journey can be completed by taking the number 7 bus from the Castle Hotel in Accrington to the ground.
